This Privacy Policy explains what information Immigrant Companion ("we", "us", "our") collects when you use our website and services, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. By using the platform you agree to the practices described below.
1. Information we collect
- Account information. Name, email address, and a hashed password when you create an account.
- Assessment answers. The profile data you submit (age bracket, education, work history, language scores, funds, goals, uploaded documents) needed to generate your report.
- Payment information. When you buy a paid product, our payment processors (Stripe, PayPal, Flutterwave, Orange Money) handle your card or wallet details directly. We only receive a transaction reference. We never see or store full card numbers.
- Technical data. IP address, browser, device type, pages visited and basic analytics, used to keep the service secure and to improve it.
2. How we use your information
- To generate your readiness score, Full Report, CV, cover letter and related deliverables.
- To process payments, issue receipts and manage refunds where applicable.
- To communicate with you about your assessment, bookings and support tickets.
- To send occasional product updates. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- To detect fraud, abuse and security incidents.
3. Sharing and third parties
We do not sell personal data. We share data only with service providers strictly necessary to run the platform: hosting (web servers), email delivery, payment processors, and AI providers used to generate report text. When you book a consultant, the consultant receives the report they need to advise you. Each provider is bound by a data-processing agreement.
4. How long we keep data
Assessment data is retained while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from your dashboard, which triggers permanent deletion of your answers, results and uploaded documents within 30 days. Payment records are retained for seven years to meet tax and accounting obligations.
5. Your rights
You can access, correct, export or delete your personal data at any time. Write to info@immigrantcompanion.org if you need help exercising these rights, or if you believe we have mishandled your data.
6. Cookies
We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you logged in and to remember your preferences. We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand which features are used. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies are set.
7. Security
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access is restricted to authorized personnel on a need-to-know basis. We run regular backups and security audits.
8. Changes
We may update this policy. Significant changes are announced by email and the "Last updated" date at the top of this page is revised.
